So um, it has come to my attention that someone took screenshots of almost every one of my fics and posted them on Pinterest with my handle cut off and no link to them.

First of all, my text posts have been screenshotted and posted without my handle before and that is fine, cause ninety percent of them are taken from other movies etc. (even though I do credit those in my tags)… I’m not that bothered by that.

What I am bothered by is the meat and bones of this post. My main point is that fanfics are different. That’s my writing… my work. I put effort into those, planned them and spent hours writing them. I’m sure other authors can attest, that’s ours. While the main material (characters, settings, etc.) is not, the ideas and how we use those characters are. 

When I saw the first screenshot I was confused because I forgot I wrote that fic, I thought it was someone else. Then I saw the next part which had a little tag I added before all my old fics: “Enjoy Children!!”.  My stomach actually dropped, because I have never had something like this happen and I wasn’t sure how to handle it. If it was just one fic, whatever, maybe it’s a little hard to find, I’ll get over it. Then I clicked that profile to see what might be going on, and saw they had a whole folder of my work, cut up and saved as different parts.

Normally I wouldn’t care about things like this, because whatever it is what it is. But seeing ALL of my work, and I mean ALL OF IT, broke my heart. Especially because some of those fics didn’t get a lot of engagement and I saw people leaving comments on Pinterest about how much they loved these fics, etc. Even as I write this I’m trying not to cry but my heart actually hurt seeing all that engagement and someone else claiming it. Some of my favorite fics that I wrote didn’t get engagement here, but people loved them on Pinterest and had no idea they were mine, that I put hours of work into them. My stomach dropped and I got progressively more furious as I scrolled and found more and more. Then I was just sad. Sad that someone took this from me and claimed it as theirs.

At the end of the day, there’s nothing I can do but know it’s happening. Please, I’m begging whoever did this and is doing this (because they are screenshooting fics I haven’t even finished publishing like the chain and song of the Phoenix) please stop. Like I’m begging you. This hurt more than anything I’ve ever felt before. And this doesnt just pertain to me, this pertains to people’s fanart, etc. etc. Credit us. We put work in so you can enjoy something more. Don’t ever take that credit away from us, it’s all we get.
